Go-Sees

And the "go-sees" are here. To anyone who does not know what a "go-see" is, they are one of the most annoying yet vital parts of modeling. An agency will send you on anywhere from a couple to 25 to 40 "go-sees" a week. The purpose is to get your face out to all of the clients so that they can meet you and you can impress them. Some go-sees are completely worthwhile; where as, others contain massive amount of models for those clients who want to see every single girl in their city and get their choice out of them all. You could go to a client and get in and get out or you could be crammed into a tiny waiting room with drones of girls waiting to meet the head three casting people for one minute after an hour and a half of waiting and be done.
Go-sees allow a model to meet clients in-person and show them a little personality to prove that they are the girl that they want. They give you the opportunity to meet an abundant amount of people in a very short amount of time. The major downside to go-sees is that they become monotonous, and you become a robot with the usual smile and strut and then BOOM you are out the door. They stare you down like you are a piece of meat placed on a platter before their critiquing eyes and then usher you out like you are nobody.
After the hundreds of go-sees that I have been on, I should almost be immune to the stress and critique they give you, but surprisingly, I am as nervous as my first one. Tomorrow I have a simple go-see for a little internet job that I use to be an expert at, but all this newness comes back to me hitting the pit of my stomach. Do I remember how to go on go-sees? How did I use to impress people in the five minutes they allow you to meet with them? Am I too old? Do I still have the body that I use to when I was 18?
So many questions that will be answered within a 15 minute span of time. The modeling world is so fast-paced and now I remember why. You learn within a matter of minutes whether or not you will have a decent paying job. (One thing that is a major plus in this industry is the pay, but that is for another time)
I will learn tomorrow whether I still have it or not, but tomorrow will not be the only day. A model's career is not determined by one NO; that no will probably turn into several others but it's those few yes's that actually give a girl the determination to keep going. Your no is a yes to some other lucky girl and the only thing to do is to be happy for that girl and for yourself when that yes finally does come.
Details about tomorrow soon to come.
